Hello hello hello hello
I make comedy, as a broadcaster and comedy director.
If you want to hear about whatever I am up to next you can subscribe to my mailing list below.
First update, my surname used to be Wheatley, but then I got married.
Kyran Nicholson got his start under his former surname 'Wheatley' by broadcasting to a few million youths on triple j for the better part of a decade.
Off air, he has kept himself busy in comedy. As a comedian himself (although not in a while), co-founder and Creative Director of Melbourne's home of comedy Comedy Republic, and as a comedy director having directed long time collaborator (and husband) Rhys Nicholson to winning Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2021, as well as Rhys Nicholson Live at the Athenaeum on Netflix.
He has also produced and hosted several hit podcasts such as Wax Quizzical, Mirth (with Comedy Republic co-founder Alex Dyson), Seek’s Alternative Route, Save The Date, ABC Comedy’s Positions Vacant as well as being the founding producer of Double J's Bang On with Myf Warhurst and Zan Rowe.
In the past few years Kyran's skills as a talented speaker and MC have been called upon as he's hosted many live events including Facebook Live events for Seek where Kyran talks with leading professionals in the employment industry, hosting Mardi Gras Fair Day, TEDx Sydney, Vivid Music Conference and the ABC’s Oz Pod podcast conference.
Kyran is the creator/producer of online comedies such as Sparks and It Gets Boring.
He also has an unnecessary scar on his lower back after a poorly executed mole removal, type two bipolar, and has deleted twitter.
Some of my things.
I co-founded and now am Creative Director of the best live comedy venue in Melbourne (biased). Comedy Republic is a unique theatre and bar in the heart of Melbourne - created for comedy, by comedians.
From the biggest names on the scene to break-through talent - our stage is home to stand up, sketch, improv, live podcasts, plays, storytelling and so much more.
How would you go at a trivia table with Jerry Springer, Hugh Jackman’s French Bulldog, or even the devil himself?
Wax Quizzical puts that to the test, with the best improvisers deep in character as your only Phone a Friend.
I directed Rhys Nicholson's 2022 touring Stand Up Show "Rhys! Rhys! Rhys!"
We spent two weeks in Adelaide working it up into pretty good little show which won Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Not bad.
Sometimes I have some thoughts that I will say. But only if it really strikes me.
These days I do a lot more hosting of things and interviewing of people, which incidentally is something you should book me for! See contact details above.
Want to hear me muddle through the big wide world of making a career change? I made a podcast called Seek Alternate Route - with my friends over at Seek, hence the clever name - and it's all about career change.
It explains what it was like to lose my dream job, and it's quietly something I'm quite proud of.
I directed for the stage a special of Rhys Nicholson's that you can now watch on Netflix.
It looks fantastic, and it's very funny.
We started watching and discussing every Marvel movie during the pandemic, but then we ran out of Marvel movies so moved on to other franchises, but then we ran out of time to watch bad movies - so now we chat.
Yeah there was that time I was on triple j. Started at mid-dawns, did some Weekend Afternoons, bit of Breakfast and Drive.
Interviewed the likes of Ghostface Killah, Paul Kelly and my Mum.
There was only one show I didn't present during the better part of that decade - Home and Hosed - and that will remain my greatest regret.
